Mercer launches ESG tool for asset owners

Mercer has designed a new tool to help asset owners consider ESG factors.

Responsible Investment Total Evaluation (RITE) helps institutional investors, including pension schemes, endowments, foundations and family offices, assess ESG in their investments and track them over time.

The firm has mapped 75 data points in 21 responsible investing areas with relevant ESG regulation. With RITE it hopes to provide investors with performance insights and an objective evaluation of their ESG credentials, including where they sit on an A++ to C scale. The initial assessment helps identify specific actions and activity will be monitored over time, allowing investors to demonstrate improvements in their ESG credentials.

“With trillions of pounds invested by large, sophisticated asset owners in the UK, including £2.3 trn via UK pension schemes, institutional investors have a huge role to play and should be helping to drive the UK’s sustainable investment agenda,” said Brian Henderson, partner at Mercer.

“Being reactive or, worse, doing nothing at all, is no longer acceptable. It is no longer about talking, but taking firm action and making progress.”
